In 2012, Bruce Schuler disappeared on a large property west of Cairns in Queensland. He was on the property with three friends who were trying to find gold with metal detectors on a rural property and did not have permissio to be there.
The station managers were said to be seen driving along an access road when they observed Bruce Schuler. Before long two gunshots were heard by Schuler’s friends 15 minutes apart and Schuler was not heard from again. His body has never been found.
The station managers were Dianne Wilson-Struber and Stephen Wilson Struber. They were arrested and convicted of the murder of Schuler. The conviction was appealed, and it was later considered by the coroner who relied only on the police evidence and the trial transcripts. Soon after, the wife of Schuler brought a petition to the government which led to the new legislation which meant that convicted murders could not be released on parole without revealing the location of the body.
Dianne Wilson-Struber and Stephen Struber maintain their innocence and therefore cannot reveal where the body might be located. From there perspective, this means that not only have they been unjustly incarcerated, there is no possibility of release from prison.
