Mark Basa – Released From Custody

We are delighted to be able to announce that Mark has been released from Christmas Island.

Over the past few years Mark made a number of applications to court to argue for his release from the immigration detention system and the government’s intention to deport him because of ‘bad character’.  The courts agreed that he should be released back to Australia where he can reside with his family but the minister disagreed and continued custody with a view for deportation.

However, with a change of government, Mr Basa’s situation and the results of the court appearances were reassessed by the new minister and he was recently released and he returned to his family in Newcastle.

Congratulations Mark, we wish you well and hope to see you settling back into a normal life.
